San Callisto tour reviews

The operator of the coach tour states it in its own listing: “The guided tour inside the Catacombs is operated by official staff in your chosen language and lasts approx. 40 mins. Independent visits are not permitted.” The catacombs’ published rules say the same thing three times over, and I have set the whole arrangement out in the guide. One detail makes the point from the other direction: reviewers of three different listings thank a guide called Geoffroy, whose name they spell three different ways, because he works for the catacombs and not for any of the companies selling the trip.
So the underground part is fixed. What moves is everything around it, and there the spread is wide: a ticket you walk up to with a bus fare in your pocket at one end, five hours on an e-bike through the park at the other. A one-star review of a tour I do not sell and have not listed here states the risk more bluntly than I would: “Bottom line it was just a ride to the catacombs and back. No privet tour or anything like expected. He drove us and brought tickets to official tour (that was amazing) with another large group… Could have takes a Uber/taxi and pay at least half price for the same experience. The driver was very nice.” She is describing a category rather than one bad day. Either a tour out here buys you a road you would not otherwise see, or it buys you a lift.

Two of these scores are worth reading and two are close to noise. The entry ticket has 3,703 ratings behind its 4.6 and the coach tour has 2,282 behind its 4.3; those numbers have settled and they mean something. The private-driver listing has four ratings. Its 5.0 is not a track record, it is four people, and I say so in that review rather than letting the headline figure sit there looking impressive. The small-group listing sits in between at 25. The e-bike tour is the one case where the best rating here also has volume behind it, which is why it turns up on the Appian Way page as well.
A second thing the averages hide: they are averages of different products. The coach tour is rated by people judging a bus and the e-bike tour by people judging a day out, and both groups did the identical forty minutes underground. Before you read any of these scores as a verdict on the catacomb, it is worth knowing what each price step actually adds.
